Overcoming Obstacles In Life & Business

-By Angel True

Have you ever experienced one of the obstacles that feels like a crushing defeat to what you want? Are you stopped by those obstacles or do you face them as a challenge to move you further along in your goals?

One of the few guarantees you have in life is that at some point you will experience obstacles in meeting your objectives. Whether it's personal growth, deepening a relationship, finding a job that you love, building your business or even just daily living obstacles simply happen

While sometimes these obstacles can be significant and large more often than not it is just your perception about how insurmountable they are. If you are one of the lucky few who see obstacles as simply another part of the process you are in good shape. But if you frequently get stopped by them or completely give up on your objectives as a result then maybe you need a few tools to get you moving forward.

What is first important to understand is that there are very few obstacles that are actually insurmountable. What may be true however is that the options available are less than desirable and may change the decision you make. Understanding that there are always choices and always options is an important part of overcoming obstacles. Once you have that clear you are ready to use the following process to move past the obstacles you experience.

Here are 6 simple steps for overcoming obstacles:

1. Identify the block or obstacle occurring
2. Define the desired objectives
3. List the choices available for resolution
4. Categorize the potential consequence/results of each choice
5. Create alternative resolutions or outcomes
6. Select best available solution

What is important to understand about this process is that it is not about finding the "perfect" resolution to the obstacle being experienced but to find a "best available option". Here is some additional information that will help in the process.

1. Identify the block or obstacle occurring
It is common when experience blocks or obstacles to feel a sense of defeat or perception that the problem has no options. Before allowing yourself to get to that point identify the specific issues, result, objective or outcome that is being prevented. Be sure to identify whether it is internal to yourself, external to yourself, systemic to the subject or related to the options and desired outcomes.

2. Define the desired objectives
Often times when you experience blocks they may be a result of unclear objectives. Take a moment make a specific list of the results you wish to accomplish on this issue and be sure they relate to the actual issue and block being experienced. If they are not related then go back to reassess the obstacle.

3. List the choices available for resolution
Remember that there are always at least 2 choices - do something and do nothing. In many circumstances doing nothing can be a reasonable resolution. Be sure to include all feasible options even if their result is not necessarily aligned with your desired objectives - they are still choices.

4. Categorize the potential consequence/results of each choice
When evaluating choices it's important to understand how acceptable each option might be. Sometimes the "less than desired but not bad" option might be a feasible solution.

5. Create alternative resolutions or outcomes
Consider whether the issue being blocked or the outcome desired might not actually be the most appropriate concern. Review the block and defined objectives to confirm whether they are on track or might be modified to avoid the obstacle.

6. Select best available solution
Now that you have all the information available including a clearly identified issue, defined objectives, possible resolutions and understood consequences make your best selection considering these factors.

If no solution feels clear then review each step to make sure you have articulated what is important and acceptable. In most cases the resolution can be fairly obvious. By using this simple process you can quickly and cleaning move through most obstacles and no longer be stopped by simple issues.

Feel free to get creative with your resolutions and options because the more you practice this process the easier everything gets in moving forward with your objects in life and business.
